Re-engineering and redesign reduces manufacturing costs, improves looks and increases profitability

A local manufacturer of marine accessories and hardware came to us requesting help with one of their patented products.  They had patented a folding boat cleat, but its sales were declining.  Additionally the cost of stainless steel (316) had been rising steadily, cutting into their margins.

A design review discovered, with FEA analysis, the loaded strength of each component was considerably higher than the boat hulls they were attached to, and, while maintaining an appropriate safety factor, we were able to remove a considerable amount of material, reducing the client's cost to manufacture, as well as improving the overall appearance of the cleat.
