Inexpensive reusable container design for home use and restaurant takeout

This was a product request from one of our existing clients. They had isolated a market for inexpensive disposable Tupperware®-like containers. These containers are very popular in the kitchen for left-overs as well as take-out boxes for restaurant use. Though they are "disposable" they are capable of being used many times.

Our challenge was to develop a lip seal and a look that would separate this product in a market that is full of competing products.  First, the lip seal had to be near-watertight yet provide an easy seal to make and break. It also had to be capable of being manufactured as a thin-walled polypropylene injection molded part in high volume.  After a series of back-and-forths with the customer getting the look and size just as they wanted it, the 3D model was successfully prototyped and multiple injection mold tools are now being manufactured.
